SPECIAL PROJECTS & INSTALLATIONS
2016 NEA grant given to dissect an entire house in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The house was a gift to the artist for Habitat for Humanity- apart of the larger project for redevelopment after the project was completed and demolished. I lived in the community for a year and mobilized local young people to help with the process in an internship. The internship consisted of students living in the neighborhood, attending community college, and from RISD.
The University of Akron: 5 week seminar and studio installation course- the students created a massive collaborative installation in the school gallery. I directed them how to create an installation in the same steps and methods I use to produce my own work.
2014 SiTE:LAB Art Prize: Received multiple grants from the Frey Foundation to produce site-specific installation with materials gathered from the Grand Rapids, MI region. I created this sculpture in a former abandoned 1920’s hotel downtown Grand Rapids. I worked with student interns to assist building and gathering materials from Kendall College. College built fall course curriculum around my sculptural practice and process.
Rooms to Let, Slavic Village Installation: This project was conceived to bring attention to the issue of housing foreclosures in the U.S and in particular in the Slavic Village neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio, which was the site of the beginning of the nationwide foreclosure epidemic. Abandoned and foreclosed homes were used by artists, architects and builders to bring awareness to the neighborhood. I created an installation specific to one home, a multi-room installation using found domestic materials gathered by the community. Held community event to gain involvement and encourage dialogue.
Satellite: Moon 3, Collaborative project with the Collinwood Neighborhood in Cleveland, OH. Created Featured Installation work along with 19 other artists collaborating to create works for an outdoor installation.
2013
SiTE: LAB, Art Prize: Produced large site-specific installation in the now-abandoned Public Museum of Natural History in Grand Rapids, MI, built in 1939. Worked with organization to secure materials and build sculpture with interns from Kendall College of Design and Art.
